Overview
Cheryl Schreck is a partner in the firm’s Los Angeles office. She regularly defends employers in complex employment litigation including class and collective wage and hour and discrimination actions, as well as single and multi-plaintiff actions involving employment discrimination, harassment and retaliation, wrongful termination and wage and hour claims. Cheryl represents employers from case inception through trial or arbitration. She has represented clients in multiple jury and bench trials and arbitrations that have resulted in defense verdicts or awards in favor of her clients. Cheryl’s dedication to her work has earned her a reputation among clients as “a trusted adviser” who not only knows how to handle high-stakes litigation but strategically partners with her clients both before litigation ensues and after a matter resolves to ensure that compliance issues are remedied proactively to avoid future litigation. As an example, Cheryl’s partnership with clients in conducting comprehensive wage and hour audits have been instrumental in significantly reducing clients’ potential exposure in subsequent wage and hour lawsuits. Cheryl’s clients include corporations, privately-held companies, and startups in the retail, transportation, staffing, construction, manufacturing, gaming, hospitality, entertainment and technology industries.
In addition to her litigation practice, Cheryl has a robust workplace investigation practice. She has conducted well over one hundred workplace investigations and has unparalleled experience in investigating allegations of hostile work environments, discrimination and retaliation as well as employee misconduct and policy violations including workplace theft. She advises employers on appropriate discipline and effective resolution strategies to remedy issues identified in workplace investigations. She also regularly trains HR professionals on conducting thorough, effective and unbiased internal investigations.
Cheryl also advises and counsels employers on the full range of employment issues including wage and hour compliance, discipline and discharge, management of leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation obligations and strategies, and layoffs. Cheryl regularly creates specifically-tailored employee handbooks and/or personnel policies and procedures for employers and revises and updates existing policies and handbooks.
Cheryl was recently named a Top California Woman Lawyer by the Daily Journal, one of only 75 women in California recognized for this honor in 2019. She was nominated for the Los Angeles Business Journal for the “Leaders in Law” awards in 2018.
After graduating from law school, Cheryl clerked for the Honorable Herschel P. Franks of the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Following her clerkship, she joined a boutique labor and employment law firm in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1987, she moved back to Los Angeles where she has worked continuously and exclusively as an employment lawyer solely representing employers.
