Howard Mavity was interviewed by EHS Contributing Editor Lauren Watters at the Safety Leadership Conference on October 27, 2014.
In the interview, Howard discussed “What Employers Need to Know About Ebola.”
Howard said the evolving CDC guidelines are creating a lot of confusion among companies attempting to keep workers safe and at the same time comply with federal regulations.
He said quarantining individuals suspected of being exposed to the deadly Ebola virus could be a violation of the Americans With Disabilities Act.
At the same time, states are stepping in with their own rules, but these are in flux. Howard noted one challenge is getting everyone to "inject some rationality" and that getting to a "relaxed management" of the crisis is some time away.
