Houston Partner Provides Insights for Construction Employers on Handling COVID-19 Vaccinations

The Portland Business Tribune featured the insights of Kevin Troutman stemming from a webinar about COVID-19 vaccines, which was hosted by the Associated General Contractors of America. Kevin explains that “in an essential industry like construction, most employees will likely have contact with others at least part of the time, which obviously requires precautions to help prevent the spread of the virus.” Thus, he advises employers to develop a policy that explains their rationale and allows employees to seek exemptions for medical reasons or on the basis of sincerely held religious beliefs. Kevin explains that having a solid policy will help employers be prepared to respond to employees who question the vaccine requirement or even refuse to take a vaccine. And he adds that “from a legal perspective, the reason for an employee’s refusal to be vaccinated is vital to determining how the employer must respond.”
