In an interview with Law360, Edward Hopkins provides insight on Colorado’s comprehensive consumer privacy legislation. The Colorado Privacy Act, which Gov. Jared Polis is expected to sign in the coming days would take effect on July 31, 2023 and has much in common with privacy laws in California, Virginia and the European Union. Ed explains that the compliance stakes for Colorado’s law are particularly high due to its enforcement structure which allows for district attorneys to enforce the law when it goes into effect. He expects that the state’s Attorney General Phil Weiser will do intelligent enforcement and focus on those who don’t show the proper amount of respect for the law.
