The Next Puzzle to Solve: CCPA Requests from Employees and Consumers, Your Obligations, and Common Challenges
Event
7.24.24
12:00 PM — 1:00 PM PST
Several years post-passage of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), there is a growing public awareness of this first-in-the-nation privacy law – and a growing number of consumer requests to access, delete, and correct personal information being made. The regulations surrounding responding to these requests are extensive and complicated. As a result, businesses attempting to respond to consumer requests face a myriad of logistical issues ranging from how to verify the identity of a requester, how to determine what information (if any) not to destroy in response to a request to delete, and how to evaluate whether a correction is warranted on a request to correct. In this presentation, attorneys from Fisher Phillips’ Consumer Privacy Team will discuss the requirements related to receiving and responding to CCPA requests to access, delete, and correct, and walk through example requests and how to respond. This presentation will also address some of the unique difficulties in complying with consumer requests from job applicants and employees, although it will also more broadly address the full spectrum of California consumers. |
