In two interviews with McKnight's, Patrick Dennison shared his insights on how long-term care employers can prepare for the threat of monkeypox. He explains that OSHA “…has not provided specific guidance regarding monkeypox, but long-term care employers are being urged by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to follow its Infection Prevention and Control of Monkeypox in Healthcare Settings.”
In addition to the federal declaration of a public health emergency, California, New York, and Illinois have declared states of emergency due to the rising monkeypox cases. Patrick believes other states will follow, he suggests employers not only review their infectious disease policies but also their anti-discrimination, harassment, and retaliation policies, and monitor workplace interactions.
