Labor Relations Co-Chair Discusses Pro-Union Mandate at Major Metropolitan Airport

In an interview with Freight Waves, Steven Bernstein shares his insight on the potential disruption to cargo flights at Chicago O’Hare airport if the city revokes the licenses of contractors that process cargo for the airlines at the airport. The city has threatened to do so if the contractors do not enter a labor peace agreement with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
“It’s certainly not a surprise that the SEIU or any number of other unions might push for those requirements because they represent an opportunity to remove perceived barriers to unionization. It would seem that if the city is operating in this way it’s because unions have exerted a fair amount of pressure upon the city,” said Steven.
