International Data Privacy: Beyond the CCPA and GDPR
Event
6.07.23
1:00 PM — 2:00 PM EST
You may be compliant with the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) in the US and the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) in the EU, but what about everywhere else? The list of countries in major international jurisdictions beyond the US and the EU rolling out or updating their own data privacy legislation continues to grow. In many cases, the reach of the foreign country’s legislation extends beyond the country’s own borders to also include employers and businesses abroad who process data involving the foreign country’s residents. Failure to comply with the pertinent data privacy laws impacting your business can carry significant fines and even criminal punishments. Companies conducting business internationally, with international employees, or processing information of international consumers need to be aware of the major international data privacy regulations impacting their business.
Join attorneys Nan Sato and Ariella Onyeama for an overview and comparison of data privacy updates in major international jurisdictions, the risks of running afoul of these regulations, and steps employers should take to maintain compliance.
