Geoff Forney Joins as Fifth Partner; Expands Firm’s Benefits and Immigration Capabilities

Fisher Phillips, an international labor and employment law firm representing employers, is pleased to announce that Geoffrey “Geoff” Forney has joined its Portland, Maine office. He joins partners Chris Stief, Shiloh Theberge, Tara Walker, and Pawel Binczyk in the firm's expanding Portland presence. Opened in February, the Portland office is one of the firm’s 43 locations across the U.S. and Mexico and strengthens its presence in New England.
With a career spanning over 18 years in government service and private practice, Geoff has extensive experience handling a variety of litigation matters in federal court, with a focus on employee benefits litigation under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and administrative law litigation under the Immigration and Nationality Act. Prior to joining Fisher Phillips, Geoff was a Trial Attorney for the U.S. Department of Labor Office of the Solicitor in Washington, D.C., where he represented the Department during investigations and in civil actions where the Department alleged violations involving the administration of employee benefit plans. He also served in the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Division, Office of Immigration Litigation where he represented agencies in federal court in disputes involving employment-based immigration programs.

At Fisher Phillips, Geoff will draw on his experience to assist clients with ERISA litigation, including claims involving fiduciaries, trustees, and service providers related to the administration and management of employee benefit plans. He will also support clients with ERISA investigations and compliance matters. He will additionally represent employers in litigation matters relating to employment-based immigration petitions and enforcement. This includes helping clients navigate issues involving EB-5, I-140, H-1B, H-2B, and H-2A matters.
Geoff earned his J.D. from Temple University Law School, his M.A. from Temple University and his B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College. He is admitted to practice in Maine, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
