Howard Mavity was quoted in the San Francisco Business Times on October 21, 2014. The article “Ebola Response: California Hospital Association Supports New CDC Regulations” examined the new guidelines put in place by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) aimed at improving the safety of nurses, doctors and other health professionals when they deal with actual or potential Ebola cases.
Howard was quoted on his concerns about isolating and ignoring the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
"Looking forward, the thing that concerns me most is that we can't just put a giant fence around West Africa and ignore it," said Howard.
"The situation is going to get worse before it gets better," Howard predicted, due to the disease's steady progress in West Africa. "It's probably inevitable that more people (carrying the virus) get into the states.”
Here in the United States, after some initial stumbles in Dallas, "we're doing well," Howard said, "but who can say what will happen if we don't get it under control internationally?"
